Euphrosine Season: Introducing the Bayou Sunset from Pearl Wine War (Coming next: The Local’s Gin & Tonic from Brennan’s)

When the weather gets hot, it’s time to think tropical. Mixologist Megan at Pearl Wine Bar created the Bayou Sunset with a negroni in mind as a starting point, but took it in a summer-focused direction with fruit juice; and toned down the bitterness by substituting Casoni 1814 for Campari.

The Bayou Sunset includes Euphrosine Gin #9, Casoni 1814, muddled orange, orange bitters, pineapple juice, and lemon peel garnish. Served in a coupe glass, it’s balanced cocktail and a great way to take your mind off the heat.

Euphrosine Season: Introducing the Pocket Square from Bayona (Coming next: Bayou Sunset at Pearl Wine Bar)

First come, first served. So goes a famous saying, and so it goes when it comes to featuring the first restaurant to participate in Euphrosine Season. Thus we found ourselves in the courtyard at Bayona, shooting the suave and sophisticated Pocket Square cocktail by Robby Farmer.

The Pocket Square includes Euphrosine Gin #9, Neige Apple ice wine from Canada, La Quintinye Royal Vermouth blanc, fresh lemon juice, and lemon bitters. It’s shaken hard and served with a twist of lemon peel and rimmed with lemon twist oil.

Just as a folded hankerchief is the perfect complement to a fine suit, a well-mixed cocktail is the perfect accessory to a meal; a great lead-in to sumptuous dining. This accessorizing of a beautiful meal with a classic cocktail explains why mixologist Robby Farmer likes to name his drinks after sartorial accessories.

The Pocket Square was created to highlight Euphrosine Gin #9 and to appeal to gin martini drinkers. It’s refined, nuanced and elegant. It has the perfect balance of acid and sugar; and makes a great pairing with spicy seafood; fattier seafood such as salmon; or sweetbreads. The perfect lead-in to a bottle of wine, especially white wine.

Yes indeed. It’s Euphrosine Season, a summer-long celebration of cocktails made with the best gin distilled in New Orleans, Euphrosine Gin #9. Two gold medals in national spirits competitions. Pot-distilled with a bold and complex flavor profile. Found on the menu at a fine selection of participating restaurants and bars in New Orleans.

In the days ahead, we’ll introduce the Season’s featured cocktails, their creators, and the places you can find them.

While drinking these cocktails can be a reward unto itself, we’re increasing the scale of the festivities with audience participation. Cocktail enthusiasts are encouraged to seek out and sip these locavore thirst-quenchers; and report on their findings. Send us two reviews and you’ll be entitled to a Euphrosine Season Founding Member T-shirt.

Local writers are invited to enter our essay contest and mixologists can enter our cocktail contest.

More Press Attention For Barrel-Finished Reserve and our New Packaging

The mighty engines of the digital media have been churning out copy on Euphrosine Gin #9 Barrel-Finished Reserve and our new gin packaging nonstop! Well, not really, but we have been getting some additional attention from a diverse selection of the media.

Most recently, Todd Price weighed in on the whiskey notes found in Barrel-Finished Reserve. “The tobacco-colored gin has a gentler heat than the original. It tastes almost like a juniper-flavored whiskey.” Todd also declared that “The flavor is more herbaceous and less sharp than a typical London dry gin.”

We’ve also expanded the the number of locations where you can find Barrel-Finished Reserve.
